(Modesto, Calif., March 8) – According to researchers at the University of Toronto, eating a certain combination of heart-healthy foods, including almonds, oatmeal, lean meats and fish, can help reduce LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol levels as much as a first-line statin drug. This gives patients a new reason to ask for a grocery list rather than a prescription at the first sign of high cholesterol levels.

Modesto, Calif., Nov. 4 – A study published in the November issue of the journal Metabolism shows that a certain dietary plan high in heart-healthy foods including almonds achieved a 35 percent decrease in LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol in just two weeks. The study shows that this dietary approach, which is known as the PortfolioEatingPlan approach, is as effective as the starting dose of cholesterol-lowering drugs such as statins in managing cholesterol.
